When using Liongardβs Cisco Meraki Inspector, you may see missing or empty Daily Traffic data. This happens when the Meraki network does not have the required Traffic Analysis and Hostname Visibility settings enabled.
This article explains why this occurs and the steps to resolve it, along with additional troubleshooting options.
Why Does This Happen? π€
The Meraki API only returns daily hostname-level traffic analytics if the network has detailed Traffic Analysis enabled. During inspection, Liongard may log the following error with inspection logs:
Traffic Analysis with Hostname Visibility must be enabled on this network to retrieve traffic data.
This means the target Meraki network is not configured to collect the required destination-host data.
Propagation time from Meraki may take up to 24 hours, and pre-existing data will not retroactively populate.
Steps to Resolve π§βπ«
Enable Required Settings in Meraki
Settings differ depending on whether the environment uses a Combined or Uncombined network.
β For Combined Networks
Navigate to Network-wide β Configure β General
Under Traffic Analysis, select:
βDetailed: collect destination hostnamesClick Save Changes
β For Uncombined Networks
Go to Network-wide β Configure β General
Set Traffic analysis β Traffic analysis enabled
Set Hostname visibility β Report specific hostnames
Click Save Changes
β After Applying Settings
Allow up to 24 hours for Meraki to populate traffic analytics
An initial spike in traffic may appear due to collection of existing flows
Values may not immediately reflect accurate real-time usage

Use the checklist below if Daily Traffic data still does not appear after updating Meraki settings.
1οΈβ£ Verify Error in Inspector Logs
Go to Inspectors β Cisco Meraki β (Target Inspector) β Inspector Logs
Search for:
Traffic Analysis with Hostname Visibility must be enabled
If present, the Meraki side is still not configured correctly or propagation has not completed.
2οΈβ£ Run Inspection in Clear Cache + Debug Mode
It Clears existing cached inspection data so that the next run fetches fresh data from the target system.
3οΈβ£ Validate the Base Meraki URL
Liongard supports two Meraki API regions:

Confirm the correct Base URL is selected in the Parent Inspector configuration.
4οΈβ£ Test With a New API Key
A new API key can resolve scope or access-related failures.
