When working with Liongard's Meraki inspector, you may encounter instances where the "Daily Traffic" data is missing. This issue typically arises due to specific settings on your Meraki device not being enabled.
Understanding the Error
During an inspection, you might see the following error in the inspection log:
"Traffic Analysis with Hostname Visibility must be enabled on this network to retrieve traffic data."
This error indicates that the necessary settings to collect traffic data are not active on your Meraki network device.
Resolving the Issue
To resolve this issue, follow the steps below to enable Hostname Visibility on your Meraki network. Note that there are different procedures for combined and uncombined networks.
For a Combined Network:
Navigate to Settings: Go to
Network-wide > Configure > General
.Modify Traffic Analysis Settings: In the Traffic Analysis section, select "Detailed: collect destination hostnames" from the drop-down menu.
Save Changes: Click
Save Changes
to apply the new settings.Note: The data displayed for traffic analytics is only collected after this feature is enabled. Data prior to that point will not be available. Initially, there may be a spike in reported traffic volume as data for existing flows is collected. Keep in mind that initial traffic values may not reflect actual usage.
For an Uncombined Network:
Access General Settings: Navigate to
Network-wide > Configure > General
.Enable Traffic Analysis: Choose "Traffic analysis enabled" from the Traffic analysis drop-down menu.
Set Hostname Visibility: Select "Report specific hostnames" from the Hostname visibility drop-down menu.
Apply Changes: Click
Save Changes
to enable the settings.
After enabling these settings, please allow up to 24 hours for the information to fully propagate through the system.
