Overview π₯
Liongard Metrics are the foundation for visibility, alerting, reporting, and automation across your environments. Metrics evaluate collected inspection data and determine whether specific conditions are met β such as configuration drift, security risk, compliance gaps, or operational changes.
Liongard provides two distinct Metric Libraries, each serving a different purpose:
Metrics within the Liongard Platform β where metrics are executed and evaluated
Liongard Metric Library (Community Library) β where metrics are shared and discovered
Understanding the difference between these two locations is essential to using metrics effectively.
Why This Matters π€
Confusion often arises because both locations use the term βMetric Libraryβ, but they serve different roles:
Metrics must exist inside your Liongard platform to run
Community-shared metrics must be imported before use
Metrics must be enabled to display results and trigger alerts
π¨ Missing or disabled metrics are a common cause of empty dashboards, missing alerts, or incomplete reports.
1οΈβ£ Metrics Library Inside the Liongard Platform
This is the primary working area for metrics in your Liongard instance.
π Navigation Path: Admin β Metrics
π What Youβll Find Here
Metric Type | Description |
Prebuilt Metrics | Default metrics provided and maintained by Liongard |
Custom Metrics | Metrics created by your team |
Cloned Metrics | Copies of Liongard metrics that you can safely modify |
βοΈ What You Can Do
β View all metrics available in your instance
βοΈ Create new custom metrics using the Metric Builder
π Clone Liongard-provided metrics
π οΈ Edit cloned or custom metrics
ποΈ Enable or disable metrics for evaluation
β οΈ Important: Liongard default metrics are read-only. You must clone them before making any changes.
β Metric Enablement Requirement
For a metric to:
Display results
Trigger alerts
Appear in reports
β¦it must be enabled.
π‘ Simply creating or importing a metric does not activate it.

2οΈβ£ Liongard Metric Library (Community Library)
The Liongard Metric Library is a community-driven repository where partners share metric queries.
π Access Options:
Support β Metrics Library (within the Liongard platform)
π What the Community Library Is Used For
Feature | Description |
Shared Metrics | Metrics contributed by Liongard partners |
Discovery | Browse metrics created by other partners |
Collaboration | Learn new approaches and use cases |
Feedback | Comment on shared metrics |
Voting | Upvote metrics you find useful |
π How Community Metrics Are Used
Browse metrics in the Community Library
Select a metric relevant to your use case
Import or recreate it in your Liongard platform
Enable the metric
Validate results against inspection data
AI Query Companion (Beta) π€
Liongard provides the AI Query Companion (Beta) to assist with metric creation.
π§ What It Helps With
Generating metric query logic
Understanding available data paths
Accelerating metric development
β οΈ Beta Disclaimer:
AI-generated queries should always be reviewed
Validate logic before enabling metrics in production

Common Issues & Troubleshooting π§βπ«
Issue | Likely Cause | Resolution |
Metric not showing results | Metric disabled | Enable the metric |
Metric shows no data | Inspector not collecting data | Verify inspection health |
Imported metric not running | Not added to Admin β Metrics | Create or import metric locally |
Cannot edit metric | Liongard default metric | Clone first, then edit |
Best Practices π
π Always clone default metrics before modifying
π§ͺ Test metrics on a limited scope first
π·οΈ Use clear naming conventions for custom metrics
ποΈ Document the purpose of complex metrics
π Upvote useful community metrics to improve discoverability
