Platform | Metrics Library

Overview πŸ’₯

Liongard Metrics are the foundation for visibility, alerting, reporting, and automation across your environments. Metrics evaluate collected inspection data and determine whether specific conditions are met β€” such as configuration drift, security risk, compliance gaps, or operational changes.

Liongard provides two distinct Metric Libraries, each serving a different purpose:

  1. Metrics within the Liongard Platform – where metrics are executed and evaluated

  2. Liongard Metric Library (Community Library) – where metrics are shared and discovered

Understanding the difference between these two locations is essential to using metrics effectively.

Why This Matters πŸ€”

Confusion often arises because both locations use the term β€œMetric Library”, but they serve different roles:

  • Metrics must exist inside your Liongard platform to run

  • Community-shared metrics must be imported before use

  • Metrics must be enabled to display results and trigger alerts

🚨 Missing or disabled metrics are a common cause of empty dashboards, missing alerts, or incomplete reports.

1️⃣ Metrics Library Inside the Liongard Platform

This is the primary working area for metrics in your Liongard instance.

πŸ” What You’ll Find Here

Metric Type

Description

Prebuilt Metrics

Default metrics provided and maintained by Liongard

Custom Metrics

Metrics created by your team

Cloned Metrics

Copies of Liongard metrics that you can safely modify

✍️ What You Can Do

  • βœ… View all metrics available in your instance

  • ✍️ Create new custom metrics using the Metric Builder

  • πŸ“‹ Clone Liongard-provided metrics

  • πŸ› οΈ Edit cloned or custom metrics

  • πŸ‘οΈ Enable or disable metrics for evaluation

⚠️ Important: Liongard default metrics are read-only. You must clone them before making any changes.

βœ… Metric Enablement Requirement

For a metric to:

  • Display results

  • Trigger alerts

  • Appear in reports

…it must be enabled.

πŸ’‘ Simply creating or importing a metric does not activate it.

πŸ”„ How Community Metrics Are Used

  1. Browse metrics in the Community Library

  2. Select a metric relevant to your use case

  3. Import or recreate it in your Liongard platform

  4. Enable the metric

  5. Validate results against inspection data

AI Query Companion (Beta) πŸ€–

Liongard provides the AI Query Companion (Beta) to assist with metric creation.

🧠 What It Helps With

  • Generating metric query logic

  • Understanding available data paths

  • Accelerating metric development

⚠️ Beta Disclaimer:

  • AI-generated queries should always be reviewed

  • Validate logic before enabling metrics in production
