Support for Windows Server Operating Systems (OS) Prior to Windows Server 2016

Updated over 5 months ago

Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 as of October 10, 2023, leading to the discontinuation of security updates and technical support as referenced in Microsoft's official documentation. This termination of support means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates for these versions. In response, we have ceased support on agent versions 4.2.4 or greater operating on Windows Server operating systems before Windows Server 2016 and strongly recommend upgrading to Windows Server 2016 or later.

Impact on Our Software and Node.js:
This change significantly impacts our software, specifically our reliance on Node.js, a third-party software package. Node.js is no longer supported on Windows Server 2012 R2, affecting the performance and security of our platform. Consequently, our agents running version 4.2.4 and later may encounter compatibility and performance issues on Windows Server 2012 R2.

Our Response and Recommendations:
To maintain the highest standards of security and functionality, on June 1, 2024, Liongard ended its support for Windows Server 2012 on agent versions 4.2.4 and greater.

Liongard agent versions 4.2.4 and greater are now incompatible with Windows Server 2012 and lower, and partners may experience issues with inspections associated with these servers.

We strongly recommend transitioning to a supported operating system version. Upgrading to Windows Server 2016 or later is advisable. Partners still needing to inspect systems running Windows Server 2012 may continue to download and use agent version 4.2.3; however, this agent version has now reached End of Maintenance (EOM) and will reach End Of Life (EOL) effective May 31, 2025.

In addition to this, we have updated our documentation accordingly.

We are committed to assisting our partners throughout this process. Your security and operational efficiency are our top priorities, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
